Becoming a Volunteer
Share the Spirit & Volunteer
There are many reasons people volunteer at Adirondack Medical Center. Some have extra time they want to share, while some have an interest in health care as a career and want to see if they enjoy the environment. Still others need credit for class or community service hours for a scholarship or resume. Some may have had a career in health care and volunteering is an exciting way to re-enter that world. Or, perhaps a family member or friend was hospitalized and volunteering is a way to "give back."
Whatever reason brings you to think about giving your time and talents to Adirondack Medical Center, we appreciate your interest.
By becoming a volunteer at AMC, you will make a difference in the lives of our patients and their families. You will also support the work of the medical center's staff and contribute to our healing environment.
Our volunteers assist in many, many ways - some interact directly with patients and families and some do not. We have positions that involve a lot of walking and some where you remain in one place for your shift. We try to accommodate your interests and talents while keeping in mind the needs of our hospital.
Qualifications
We ask that you come to Adirondack Medical Center with a positive attitude about service, an ability to learn and follow direction, and the desire to commit to a volunteer position. We do require that volunteers be at least 16 years old and are able to communicate clearly.
What you can expect from us is the opportunity to utilize your talents, to hone new skills and to learn from colleagues who value you as a partner in caring.
Auxiliary
The medical center also has an active auxiliary. Auxiliary members from throughout the Tri-Lakes host fund-raising events and socials to benefit projects at the hospital. The auxiliary's annual summer Antique Show & Sale is one of the oldest and longest running in the Northeast. Over the years, the auxiliary has been instrumental in raising money to purchase life saving equipment, donating to many of the medical center's services, and funding the chapel. The auxiliary is also active in advocating on behalf of the medical center.
