Xbox 360 Kiosks Bring Games and Entertainment to AMC

April 28th, 2009

SARANAC LAKE – As a result of a generous partnership between Microsoft and the Companions in Courage Foundation, Adirondack Medical Center (AMC) is receiving four customized, mobile Xbox 360 kiosks intended to provide a respite for young patients and a catalyst for fun.
The partnership between Xbox 360 and Companions in Courage is reminder that the pleasure of playing games can help alleviate some of the fear and distress associated with hospital stays. The Xbox 360 kiosks at AMC will provide fun, interactive experiences that allow hospitalized kids to be kids.
“We are very proud to be participating in this wonderful program, and in the end it is about keeping smiles on the faces of our children,” said Chandler Ralph, President & CEO of AMC.
The Xbox 360 kiosks are available in different areas throughout the Medical Center and offer a variety of family-friendly entertainment, including E and E10+ rated video games, Y-rated television programs and G-rated movies. The kiosks will also provide a private Xbox LIVE connection to allow patients to connect with each other using Xbox LIVE Headsets and LIVE Vision Camera capabilities. The Xbox 360 kiosks will implement the console’s industry-leading parental controls, known as Family Settings, to help ensure young patients enjoy a variety of age-appropriate games, TV shows and movies. Family Settings will also be used to set limits on the amount of time the kiosks may be used.
AMC is the leading provider of health care in the Adirondack Park, and operates hospitals in Lake Placid and Saranac Lake, skilled nursing and rehabilitation facilities in Lake Placid and Tupper Lake, and primary care clinics in Keene, Lake Placid and Tupper Lake.  For more information, log onto www.amcCares.org.
