Successful Tournaments Raise $60,000 for AMC Programs and Services

September 11th, 2009

SARANAC LAKE - For the first time in its 14 year history, the AMC Golf Tournament held at the Lake Placid Club's Mountain Course had a participant win the $10,000 Hole-In-One Contest.

The winner, Wayne Bujold of Saranac Lake, was clearly on fire as he and the rest of his foursome on Team McKesson were the 1st Flight and overall winners in the July tournament.  Bujold's teammates included Steve Detwiler, Bob Modliszewski and Tom Varden who collectively shot a 58.

In August, AMC held its Golf for Mercy Tournament at the Tupper Lake Country Club where a team score of 58 gave 1st Flight and overall champ honors to George Clark, Tim Clark, Pat McLear and Tom Proulx of the Stuart-Fortune-Keough Team.

The real winner is the programs and services of AMC that will benefit from the $60,000 raised between both tournaments.  The money raised will be used in the renovation and upgrades for the Medical Imaging Angiography suite at AMC in Saranac Lake.

In the Lake Placid tournament, the major sponsor was Pepsi, and 188 golfers took to the greens following shotgun starts in the morning and afternoon.  A lingering rain in the morning gave way to clear skies and a spectacular finish to the day.  Shaheen's Supermarket was the major sponsor for the Tupper Lake tournament, where 68 golfers teed up under clear skies and warm temperatures.

Following Team McKesson at the Lake Placid Tournament, Flight 2 was won by the North Country Medical Team who shot a 63.  Team members included Tim Clark, Brian Dukett, Brian J. Dukett, and Chris Kenniston.

The team of Ray Boyer, Steve Miller, Todd Rosenbarker and Steve Sullivan scored a 66 to take Flight 3 honors, while the Gokey/Larabie Team consisting of Brett Carpenter, Laura Gokey, Shawn Larabie and Janice Tobin were recognized for their efforts with a trophy for the "Most Honest Score."

Olivia Nedwick of the Pepsi Team and Kristin Meissner of Dr. Moccia's Team won the women's longest drive on Hole 14 and closest to the pin on Hole 12, respectively.

Wayne Bujold scored closest to the pin for men with his ace on Hole 4 while Logan McDougall hit the men's longest drive.  The McKesson team also claimed the only skin of the tournament with the hole-in-one on Hole 4 which was worth $600.

Don Wells of DEW Construction qualified above 20 other golfers as the finalist on the $10,000 putt-off contest on Hole 18, however his 50-foot putt fell short of the hole.

Dr. Beth Bartos was the lucky winner of $650 in the 50/50 raffle while Stan Urban of Lake Placid was the random draw winner of a new Callaway driver.

A barbecue, sponsored by Dr. Richard Moccia, under the Pavilion wrapped up the Lake Placid tournament.

In the Tupper Lake tournament, Flight 2 winners were Mary Sparks, Jim Dattola, Rickey Dattola and Mike Kmack of the Tupper Lake Supply Team with a score of 60.

Third Flight honors with a score of 69 went to Donna and Tom Amoroso and Denise and John Moore.

Cyndee McGuire, Chandler Ralph, Cheryl Breen Randall and David Aldrich were recognized with a prize for the "Most Honest Score."

Closest to the pin honors went to Anne Maltais on the par-three Hole 12, and Tim Clark on the par-three Hole 18.  Longest drive honors were earned by Mary Shaheen for her drive on Hole 2 and Ed Rockstroh for his drive on Hole 14.

Fifteen golfers qualified for the $5,000 putting contest with Cindy Lewis earning finalist honors and coming within inches of sinking her 50-foot putt on the 18th green.

Two skins, worth $160 each, were claimed by Cindy Lewis, Anne Maltais, Pam Savard and Mary Shaheen of the Savard Team on Hole 16, and Paul Johnson, Chris Lane, Blaine Love and Chuck Robertson of the Medical Management Resources Team on Hole 5.

Linda Pickering won the 50/50 drawing and took home $292, while George Clark was the random draw winner of a new Callaway Driver.

A buffet dinner in the clubhouse followed the golf round.
