"Struttin' For Stuffin'" Draws Over 100 Participants

December 2nd, 2009

SARANAC LAKE - In what is expected to become an annual event, the kick-off of Adirondack Medical Center's "Struttin' for Stuffin'" benefit fundraiser attracted over 100 runners and walkers on Thanksgiving Day.

The Thanksgiving trotters participated in the five kilometer Run/Walk held in downtown Lake Placid, starting at the Olympic Oval and continuing around Mirror Lake before returning to the finish line at the Oval.  The top 12 male and female walkers and runners in each category were awarded a turkey for their efforts, and ten participants were awarded special prizes for crossing the finish line before the special running guest, "MD, the Hen Turkey."

The event was held to support the programs and services of Adirondack Medical Center and the Lake Placid Ecumenical Food Pantry.  The event resulted in the collection of over 500 non-perishable food items to be donated to the Lake Placid Ecumenical Food Pantry.  Over $2,000 was raised for the programs and services of Adirondack Medical Center.

The event would not have been a huge success were it not for the generous donation of bottled water from High Peaks Cyclery and turkey prizes from AMC.

The Fit for Life Program at AMC is an exercise-based program that uses activities such as riding a stationary bike, walking on a treadmill, using an arm bike and muscle strengthening exercises.  All exercise is done under the close supervision of our Fit for Life team, with the latest in state of the art equipment.  Participants in the program need a physician referral, and join to increase physical activity, or to address health issues such as diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obesity or depression.
