Carolyn has worked at Saratoga Hospital and the Uihlein Living Center in Lake Placid.

A hand therapist is an occupational or physical therapist who, through advanced study, specializes in rehabilitating patients with conditions affecting the hands and arms.  Hand therapists work with patients who have a variety of upper extremity conditions including tendon and nerve injuries, fractures and dislocations, sports and work injuries, repetitive motion syndromes, burns and frostbite, arthritis, amputations and neurological conditions.

Certified Hand Therapists have a minimum of five years clinical experience with at least 4,000 hours of direct practice in hand therapy, and have successfully passed an examination of advanced clinical skills and theory in upper extremity rehabilitation.  This exam requires detailed knowledge of the anatomy and treatment of the upper extremity.  There are approximately 5,400 practitioners worldwide who have achieved this designation.

Referral from a physician or other health care provider is required to obtain hand therapy services.  For more information or to schedule an appointment, contact the Physical Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine Department at AMC in Lake Placid at (518) 523-8580.
