New Dentist to Help Launch AMC Mobile Dental Clinic
July 13th, 2009
SARANAC LAKE - Adirondack Medical Center is pleased to announce the addition of Alphonso R. Edgecombe, D.D.S., to its medical staff where he will play a role in the launching of a Mobile Dental Clinic.
Dr. Edgecombe joins Dr. Peter M. Rosenberger, D.M.D., who currently works at the AMC Dental Clinic in Lake Placid. While the final details and scheduling for the Mobile Dental Clinic are close to being finalized, the general concept is to drive the "clinic on wheels" to residents of outlying communities where limited resources and travel are obstacles for receiving timely dental care. The Mobile Dental Clinic is a retro-fitted recreational vehicle that is fully registered, licensed and insured in New York State, as well as certified to provide dental care by the New York State Department of Health.
The Mobile Dental Clinic is tentatively scheduled to operate from May to October, so during the late fall and winter Dr. Edgecombe will join Dr. Rosenberger in the AMC Dental Clinic in Lake Placid. Both Dr. Edgecombe and Dr. Rosenberger will alternate duties on the Mobile Dental Clinic. Although the exact schedule for the Mobile Dental Clinic has not yet been established, tentative plans call for the service to be stationed in the communities of AuSable Forks, Keene Valley, Vermontville and Tupper Lake.
Dr. Edgecombe received his Associate of Science, Biology with Chemistry, from the College of the Bahamas in 1995, and his Bachelor of Science, Pre-Medical Science from Saint Augustine's College, Raleigh, N.C., in 1999. In 2006, he earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery from the Howard University College of Dentistry in Washington, D.C. Dr. Edgecombe performed his residency at Jacobi Medical Center in Bronx, N.Y.
He is a member of the American Student Dental Association and American Dental Association, and licensed to practice Dentistry in New York State.
Inspired by a dentist he met in high school, the opportunity to play a role in establishing the Mobile Dental Clinic at AMC was very appealing to Dr. Edgecombe. Originally from the Bahamas, he has lived in metropolitan communities along the entire east coast. However, it was the unique lifestyle offered in the Tri-Lakes coupled with the professional opportunity that lead to his decision to join AMC. His hobbies include watching movies, working out, and biking.
Dr. Edgecombe will begin working for AMC on July 13, and is currently in the process of relocating to the area from Miami with his wife, Jolie Rodriguez, M.D. Dr. Rodriguez is a pathologist completing a Fellowship as a Medical Examiner.
The Mobile Dental Clinic was made possible in part through sponsorship and efforts of NYS Sen. Elizabeth "Betty" Little, the Adirondack Medical Center Foundation, Excellus BlueCross BlueShield, and the Tri-Lakes Uninsured Task Force.
