Linda Savarie Wins ABCD Award

May 11th, 2009

SARANAC LAKE – Linda Savarie, who is the Patient Education Coordinator at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake, was named an ABCD recipient for AMC.

The program, known as ABCD, stands for “Above & Beyond the Call of Duty.”

The ABCD Award is presented to AMC Employees who provide exemplary service or care outside of their job requirements and reflects positively on them, their field of practice, community and AMC.

Satisfying the criteria for this award comes as no surprise to those who know and work with Linda.  Not too long ago there was a complex surgical patient at AMC.  Because of the procedure the patient had undergone, she not only required teaching for home care for the patient and her family, but extensive one-on-one time for her treatment as well.  Linda was called upon to do the teaching aspect, which is very much a part of her job.  What is not necessarily part of her job are the countless hours Linda spent with the patient and her family taking care of the patient’s treatment.  Linda often came in after office hours and on weekends to see this patient.  She made herself available to assist the staff any time the need would arise.  While many aspects of the patient’s hospital stay were anxiety provoking, Linda developed and fostered a trusting relationship with the patient that continued after the patient was discharged from AMC.  This is just one example of many of how Linda Savarie goes Above and Beyond the Call of Duty with her patients.

In addition to a certificate of appreciation, Linda was given a $50 gift certificate.  AMC will announce ABCD winners on a regular basis.
