Health Insurance Screenings Scheduled for Cover the Uninsured Week

March 5th, 2009

SARANAC LAKE - The Tri-Lakes Uninsured Task Force is sponsoring a series of Health Insurance Eligibility Screenings during this year’s Cover the Uninsured Week Campaign.  Screenings are scheduled for:

Monday, March 23rd @ Lake Placid Elementary School Cafeteria from 4 – 7:00 p.m.
Tuesday, March 24th
@ Saranac Lake High School Auditorium from 4 – 7:00 p.m.
Wednesday, March 25th
@ L.P. Quinn Elementary School from 4 – 7:00 p.m.
Thursday, March 26th
@ Keene Central School in Keene Valley from 4 – 7:00 p.m.

According to a recent phone survey in the Tri-Lakes region, approximately 12 percent, or 2,500 adults and 4 percent (or 270) children locally are without health insurance.  “These are our family members, our neighbors, and even ourselves,” explained Ann Morgan, Project Coordinator for the Tri-Lakes Uninsured Task Force.  “We need to let these folks know that the State of New York offers several low and no-cost programs and that they may be eligible and to encourage them to find out.”
To help people find out what they may be eligible for, the Task Force has organized a series of Health Insurance Eligibility Screenings.  The screenings are free and open to any one who is currently without insurance, or anyone concerned that they may soon become uninsured.  It takes approximately 10-15 minutes to be screened.  As incentive to be screened, the Task Force is offering a $10 gift certificate to Kinney Drugs or Price Chopper (limit, 1 per family).
Cover the Uninsured Week is a project of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and is a national effort to highlight the fact that too many Americans are living without health insurance.  The Tri-Lakes Uninsured Task Force has participated locally since 2003.
