First-ever Tupper Lake-AMC Golf for Mercy Tourney a Success

August 26th, 2007
Thanks to the generosity of the Tupper Lake community and supporters of Adirondack Medical Center, over $10,000 was raised at the first-ever Tupper Lake-AMC Golf for Mercy Tournament held in conjunction with the AMC Uihlein-Mercy Campaign.
Over 80 golfers teamed up to hit the links at the Tupper Lake Country Club on August 23 to support the critical endeavor of protecting long-term care for the Tri-Lakes region. The funds raised at the Tupper Lake tournament will benefit the acquisition and renovation of AMC-Mercy in Tupper Lake. In July, a similar tournament was held in Lake Placid to support the AMC Mercy-Uihlein Campaign.
With the weather cooperating right down to the final putt, the Shaheen Supermarket Team won the First Flight with a low gross score of 60. Comprising Team Shaheen were Patrick Facteau, Dan Mansfield, Nathan Shaheen and Paul Shaheen. In Flight Two, the Belleville & Associates Team of Ron and Pam Belleville, and Ray and Lori Martin, won with a low gross score of 62. In Flight Three, the Amoroso/Moore Team of Tom and Donna Amoroso, and John and Denise Moore, won with a low gross score of 68.
For individual accomplishment, Rhett Colby, of Lake Placid, won the men's longest drive, and Mary Shaheen, of Tupper Lake, won the ladies longest drive. Robert Gilbeault, of Tupper Lake, won the men's closest to the pin, while Denise Moore, of Tupper Lake, won the ladies closest to the pin. Eleven people qualified for the Putting Contest, which featured Woody Maroun and John Moore as the finalists. Ray Martin was the lucky winner of $310 in the 50/50 raffle, and $440 in skins were won by 12 individuals.
While no date has been set, golf committee members at AMC are already planning for next year's Tupper Lake-AMC Golf for Mercy Tournament to be held in mid-August.
