First Baby Born at AMC Since Re-opening

    SARANAC LAKE – Carly Simpson-Hamelin and her husband Ben, of Ray Brook, had to wait just a little longer to have their first child at Adirondack Medical Center.
    Carly was scheduled to be induced into labor on Sunday, March 22 – the same day AMC was in the process of transferring patients out because a partial chimney collapse had knocked out the boilers that produce heat and hot water for the hospital.  A phone message left for Carly and Ben from their obstetrician, Dr. Denise Ferrando, meant the birth of their child was temporarily on hold.
    Then on Tuesday, the expecting couple was test driving a new car in Plattsburgh when they got the call.
    “If we couldn’t have the baby, we were going to at least get a new car,” Carly quipped.
    So at 6:13 p.m., Tuesday, Maddox Michael Hamelin was brought into the world via C-section at 8 pounds, 13 ounces, and 23 and one-half inches long.
    “Everything went well, and here we are,” said Carly as she cradled a sleeping Maddox.
    Ben was still reveling in the moment of being a first-time dad.
    “He’s not even 24 hours old,” remarked Ben as he watched Carly and Maddox.
