Financial services director earns prestigious designation

July 9th, 2012

SARANAC LAKE - Candy Edie, Director of Patient Financial Services for Adirondack Health, has earned the prestigious designation of Certified Patient Account Manager (CPAM) with the American Association of Healthcare Administrative Management (AAHAM).

She is only one of three individuals in New York State with the certification.  To illustrate how difficult it is to become certified, of the 119 people who sat for the exam in 2010, only 37 passed.  In the patient financial services industry, the CPAM is comparable to earning a public accounting certification or passing the bar exam.

The CPAM certification signifies Candy has completed a rigorous professional competency examination addressing the complex areas of patient access, billing, credit and collections, and revenue cycle management.  Revenue cycle management is important for the financial well-being of an organization, but also involves gathering the correct information from patients in a timely manner in order to provide them with prompt and appropriate service.

By earning the CPAM designation, Candy has demonstrated she possesses the knowledge-base to successfully complete the eight-hour examination, but more importantly, indicates her commitment to the highest level of customer service for the patients served by Adirondack Health.  In order to maintain this professional certification, Candy is required to earn 40 continuing education hours every two years in activities such as attending educational seminars, writing articles and giving presentations, and coaching others for certification exams.

Adirondack Health encourages all employees to pursue educational opportunities for professional growth.  Opportunities for clinical and non-clinical education are offered at Adirondack Health on a regular basis, and employees can also attend outside workshops and training seminars to broaden and enhance their knowledge base and professional skills.
