Dr. Chris Hyson Earns Family Medicine Recertification

October 6th, 2008
SARANAC LAKE – Adirondack Medical Center is pleased to announce the successful completion of the American Board of Family Medicine Recertification Examination by Dr. Christopher P. Hyson.
Board certification confers a standard of excellence in knowledge and practice to physicians who not only certify through the examination process, but who also work diligently on the maintenance of these skills during the seven-year cycle between examinations.
Dr. Hyson has been a Family Practice Physician for AMC since 1989, and currently works at the medical center’s primary care clinic in Keene, the Mountain Health Center.  Dr. Hyson resides in Lake Placid with his wife, and they have two children.  His interests include rock climbing, wood working, skiing, canoeing, and playing the piano.  He has deep ties to the community of Keene Valley extending back three generations.
To achieve recertification by the Board of Family Medicine, a family physician must verify the completion of 300 hours of acceptable continuing medical education over the past six years; possess a full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in the United States; and successfully complete a one-day, written examination of cognitive knowledge and problem solving abilities.  This examination covers the disciplines of the specialty including, but not limited to, adult medicine, care of newborns, infants, children, adolescents, maternity and gynecological care, community medicine, care of the older patient, human behavior and mental health, and care of the surgical patient.
Adirondack Medical Center is the primary provider of health care in the Tri-Lakes Region and Adirondack Park.  The Medical Center operates primary care clinics in Keene, Lake Placid and Tupper Lake.
The Mountain Health Center in Keene can be reached at 576-9771.
