Devlin Team Wins AMC Golf Crown

August 8th, 2007
For the first time in the AMC~Coca Cola Benefit Golf Tournament's 12 year history, it had to be abbreviated to a nine-hole tournament due to severe weather.  However, that did not dampen the spirits of those who teed off in support of the hospital at the Lake Placid Club's Mountain Course on Friday, July 27th.  The Devlin Team of Lake Placid consisting of Art Devlin, Jeff Gronauer, Hank Snow and Leonard Welch, scored a low gross 25 for their round earning them top honors in Flight One and for the tournament.
A nine-hole score of 31 earned first place honors in Flight Two for the Medical Liability Mutual Insurance Company's team of Dan Caniff, Guy Forden, Chris Jeffers and Tom Thorp, while Flight Three top honors went to CVPH Medical Center's team with a nine-hole score of 33.  The team with the "most honest" score of 48 was also recognized with Patricia & Jennifer Gero, Joanne Johnson and Jessica Darney-Buehler each taking home a prize for their efforts.
Both a longest drive and closest to the pin contests were held with Kate Eldridge claiming both of the ladies' titles while Don Mortensen of Lake Placid had the longest drive for the men and Patrick Facteau of AMC claimed the men's closest to the pin honors.
One lucky golfer was the random draw winner of a Taylor Made Burner Driver, and Dr. David Welch won the 50/50 $500 pot of gold, which he promptly donated back to Adirondack Medical Center.  The Burgess Enterprise Team of Plattsburgh won the lone skin of the event worth $500. Andy Donatello of Lake Placid and Larry Rogers of Ballston Spa were the two semi-finalists in the $10,000 putting contest, and made a valiant effort on trying to sink the 50-foot final putt.
Forty-seven teams of four took to the links and teed up to help raise more than $40,000 for Adirondack Medical Center's acquisition and renovation of the hospital's two area nursing homes, and the renovation and expansion of the Tupper Lake Health Center and Rehabilitation Center.
