Credit Union’s Loan Program Benefits AMC

November 20th, 2008

SARANAC LAKE – An innovative loan program at Tri-Lakes Federal Credit Union is saving borrowers money and benefiting Adirondack Medical Center.
The Tri-Lakes Federal Credit Union has been offering an alternative to traditional banking since 1978 by promoting thrift, providing credit at reasonable rates, and offering a wide range of low cost financial services to its members and the community.
Earlier this year, Tri-Lakes Federal Credit Union announced a special program that allows its members to reduce the interest rate on a loan by up to one percent if the borrower elects to make a donation to Adirondack Medical Center.  For every $20 donated to AMC, the credit union lowers the loan interest rate one-tenth of a percent up to one percent for a maximum donation of $200.
“This is an opportunity for the credit union to continue with its core belief: People helping People,” said Edward Lis, CEO of the credit union.
Lis initiated the program because he thought it was a good fit with the credit union’s mission and vision of helping members become financially independent, promote thrift, and in turn helping to support a good cause within the community.  He also believes the credit union, much like AMC, have similar obligations to remain active in the local community.
“The credit union actively engages itself in the community and we are proud to assist AMC sustain and continue its own core mission and values of providing excellent healthcare close to home,” Lis said.
Lis added that many AMC employees are members of the credit union.
Borrowers are certainly seeing a value in the program as Lis was able to present the AMC Foundation with a check for $3,800 raised through the loan initiative.
