Creative Curing: The Adirondack History of Healing Through The Arts & Humanities Lecture Series Begins

May 1st, 2006

SARANAC LAKE - Beginning May 11th and continuing through June 29th, Adirondack Medical Center's Arts in Healthcare Committee and Historic Saranac Lake are presenting a five-part lecture series, Creative Curing: The Adirondack History of Healing Through the Arts and Humanities.

This lecture series will examine the pioneering use of the arts and humanities which helped to rehabilitate tuberculosis patients in Saranac Lake beginning in 1904, and continues, even today, as a mind, body and spirit approach to healing grows in our country's communities and health care institutions.

The first of the five-part lecture series begins on May 11th at 7:00 p.m. at Saranac Village at Will Rogers with a two-part discussion on the history of arts and healing in Saranac Lake. Mary Hotaling of Historic Saranac Lake will present, "The Workshop at Trudeau Sanatorium", and Shirley Morgan will present, "Far, Far Away From Tuberculosis: The Saranac Lake Study and Craft Guild". There is a suggested donation of $5 that benefits production of the lecture series.

The series is also funded by a grant awarded by the New York Council for the Humanities and funds raised by Adirondack Medical Center's Arts in Healthcare Committee. #####
