According to December, 2008 phone survey in the Tri-Lakes region, approximately 12 percent, or 2,500 adults and 4 percent (or 270) children locally are without health insurance.  "Our objective is to make sure people are aware the State of New York offers several low and no-cost programs for which they may be eligible," said Laura Duncan, Coordinator for the Tri-Lakes Uninsured Task Force.

To help people find out what they may be eligible for, the Task Force has organized a series of Health Insurance Eligibility Screenings.  The screenings are free and open to any one who is currently without insurance, or anyone concerned that they may soon become uninsured.  It takes approximately 10-15 minutes to be screened.

Cover the Uninsured Week is a project of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and is a national effort to highlight the fact that too many Americans are living without health insurance.  The Tri-Lakes Uninsured Task Force has participated locally since 2003.
