Chief Nursing Officer Earns Unique Executive Designation

June 2nd, 2010

SARANAC LAKE - Adirondack Medical Center is proud to announce that Chief Nursing Officer Margaret Sorensen has earned the designation of Certified in Executive Nursing Practice (CENP). The CENP is a national credential issued by the American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE), and distinguishes an individual as being among the elite of executive nurse leaders.

Margaret has been with AMC since 1998 when she began work as the Director of Perinatal and Surgical Services and Intensive Care.  She has served in her current position as the Chief Nursing Officer since 2002, which is responsible for both inpatient and outpatient hospital services.  She received her Associate in Applied Sciences Degree for Nursing from Maria College in Albany, and her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing, with honors, from SUNY Plattsburgh.  Margaret later earned her Master's Degree as a Family Nurse Practitioner from Sage Graduate School in Troy.  A nurse practitioner is a registered nurse with special training for providing primary care, including many tasks customarily provided by a physician.

To earn the CENP designation, an individual must satisfy eligibility requirements that incorporate a blend of work experience and education, agree to adhere to the organization's Professional Standards of Conduct, and pass the CENP examination. The CENP examination tests knowledge required of a competent nurse executive in the areas of communication and relationship building, health care environment, leadership, professionalism, business skills, information management and technology. The CENP Program supports the community of nurse executives, and is designed to provide an objective and rigorous assessment of professional knowledge and competence.

The American Organization of Nurse Executives Credentialing Center (AONE-CC) is the premier credentialing program for nurse leaders in executive nursing practice.
