Brian Ruede Hired as Vice President of Long Term Care
June 26th, 2006
SARANAC LAKE - Adirondack Medical Center is pleased to announce the hiring of Brian Ruede as Vice President of Long Term Care. In this capacity, Ruede will oversee Adirondack Medical Center's certificate of need application for the acquisition of the two area nursing homes, Uihlein Mercy Center in Lake Placid and Mercy Healthcare Center in Tupper Lake. Once that process is complete, Ruede will become the administrator of record at Uihlein Mercy Center while reporting directly to Chandler Ralph, President & CEO of Adirondack Medical Center and becoming an integral member of AMC's executive team.
Mr. Ruede has come full circle with his return to health care in the Adirondacks, as he was the Financial Operations Manager at the General Hospital of Saranac Lake from 1989 to 1991. "In addition to knowing and loving the area," Ruede states, "I was interested in returning to AMC to investigate and assist in facilitating the merger of the two nursing homes with a hospital based system. This project presents an opportunity to be creative and enhance the current services provided at the nursing homes."
A native of the Albany area, Ruede received a bachelor's degree in cell biology from SUNY Plattsburgh. He then went on to work three years in immunology at Rockefeller University in NYC prior to pursuing a master's degree in health administration at the Medical College of Virginia. After completing a one-year residency at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio he returned to the North Country to work at the General Hospital of Saranac Lake. During the 90's, Ruede was the Patient Accounts Manager at Auburn Memorial Hospital for several years and it was during that time period that he earned his long-term care administrators license.
His first position in long-term care was the administrator of the Cayuga County Nursing Home near Syracuse for four years. For the past eight years, he has been at the administrative helm of the Clinton County Nursing Home in Plattsburgh.
Adirondack Medical Center is currently working with the two area nursing homes to recruit a second individual who will eventually become the Assistant Vice President of Long Term Care. This individual will be the administrator of record for Mercy Healthcare Center reporting to Mr. Ruede and working with him on the nursing homes' quality management program, case management and employee relations among other projects.
In addition to purchasing both Uihlein and Mercy Healthcare Center for $1.8 million dollars, Adirondack Medical Center has developed plans for over $5 million dollars in renovations to the nursing homes, and is launching a fundraising campaign in support of this venture.
