Ambulatory Surgical Unit nurse presented at AMC with Handler Award

January 16th, 2012

SARANAC LAKE - A nurse from the Ambulatory Surgical Unit at Adirondack Medical Center, a member of Adirondack Health, has been named the 2011 recipient of the prestigious Meghan E. Handler Excellence in Nursing Memorial Award.

Aimee Goddeau, a registered nurse, was recognized recently for her exceptional work in the nursing field.

The Handler award is given annually to an AMC nurse with less than three years experience. It is named in memory of Meghan Handler, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Richard Handler, who passed away in 1998. Dr. Handler, an internist, was a long-time member of the AMC Medical Staff  who retired in 2011.

Recipients are chosen based on their knowledge and commitment to improve and expand their knowledge base; technical skills, compassion; rapport with patient families and colleagues, and efficiency.  The Ambulatory Surgical Unit, also known as outpatient surgery, is a dedicated unit for same-day surgical procedures.

Contributions to the Meghan E. Handler Excellence in Nursing Award can be made to the Adirondack Health Foundation, P.O. Box 120, Saranac Lake, NY 12983.
