Advance Directives Education Sessions

April 17th, 2008

SARANAC LAKE  –  In observance of National Healthcare Decisions Day on April 16, Adirondack Medical Center is hosting information sessions to educate the public about Advance Directives.
Advance Directives are both oral and written orders intended to address a person’s health care wishes if that person is unable to speak for themselves.  Anyone who is 18 years of age or older, or has a chronic disease, should be aware of the need for Advance Directives.  There are different forms of Advance Directives, as well as many layers that present their own set of individual questions.  Because of this, education is the key when confronting a wide array of medical decisions.
Officials from Adirondack Medical Center will be available to offer educational sessions on Advance Directives as well as answer questions at events throughout the Tri-Lakes region.  In addition, there will be a presentation on a new form of Advance Directives, known as Medical Orders for Life-Sustaining Treatment (MOLST).  Dr. William Viscardo, Vice President of Medical Affairs, and Sister Janet Peters, Director of Pastoral Care, will be leading the forums at the following locations:
    - Adirondack Adult Center, Tupper Lake; April 23, 11:30 a.m.
    - Lake Flower Apartments, Saranac Lake; April 25, 9:30 a.m.
    - DeChantel Apartments, Saranac Lake; April 25, 1:30 p.m.
    - Greenwood Apartments, Lake Placid; May 7, 2 p.m.
For more information, contact Sister Janet Peters at 897-2945.
