Adirondack Health Symposium highlights the power of optimism
October 11th, 2012
SARANAC LAKE - Who couldn't use a big dose of
optimism?
Join the Adirondack Health
Foundation on Thursday, Nov. 1 for the 2012 Health
Symposium, The Power of Optimism: How Joy
and Optimism Ignite the Best in All of Us, and hear how to access your
energy, creativity and playfulness to achieve your full potential.
Hosted at the new Conference Center at Lake Placid, this year's Symposium
features keynote speaker Steve Gross, M.S.W., Executive Director and Chief
Playmaker of the Life is good Kids Foundation.
Steve is a gifted, inspirational speaker who will share his lessons on
how to harness the power of optimism. He
is a pioneer in utilizing exuberant, joyful play to promote resiliency in
children and their caregivers, and a leader in the field of psychological
trauma response.
"I heard Steve speak at a
conference recently, and the message was not only joyful but also applicable to
our everyday lives," said Kathy McHugh,
special events coordinator for Adirondack Health. "He is passionate about his work, about the
Life is good Kids Foundation, and about the power of approaching life with arms
- and hearts - wide open. This is an
opportunity people won't want to miss."
Gross has implemented child
trauma intervention projects with the Center for Trauma Psychology in response
to the greatest tragedies of our time, including the 2010 earthquake in Haiti.
Following the massive Turkish
earthquakes of 1999 and 2000, Gross helped create a classroom-based trauma
intervention (CBI) to help surviving children regain a sense of safety, share
their stories of survival and plan for a more hopeful future. To date, this intervention has served over
250,000 children around the world including Indonesia, Sri Lanka,
Gaza,
Sudan,
Burundi
and Nepal.
The fun-filled evening
begins at 5 p.m. with the Wicked Fun Reception featuring local shops and
services, live demonstrations, discounts for area businesses, door prizes and
more. There will be a cash bar and
complimentary hors d'oeuvres, and an opportunity to mix and mingle with friends
old and new.
Steve's keynote address will
follow at 7 p.m. Registration
by Oct. 15 is $15, and after October 15 the cost is $20. Bring your spouse, your mother, sister or
best friends, but be sure to be in the audience to hear this exceptional
speaker and learn how to fill your life with the power of optimism.
