Adirondack Health Gala honors Harry A. Jacobs Jr.

August 6th, 2012

SARANAC LAKE - Adirondack Health presented the inaugural Dr. Edward L. Trudeau Award at its 15th Annual Gala in July to Harry A. Jacobs Jr. for his many accomplishments and generous spirit.

The award honors the contributions Dr. Edward L. Trudeau made to the advancement of health care in the Tri-Lakes region with a special focus on the qualities he demonstrated in his work: courage, compassion and generosity.  Mr. Jacobs has clearly lived by these qualities through his work in the financial world and his service to the Adirondack Health Foundation and other local organizations.

Over $95,000 was raised at the Gala for programs and services of Adirondack Health.  Through the generous support of the community, the Adirondack Health Foundation strives to raise funds and thoughtfully manage investments in a way that enables Adirondack Health to meet the future needs of health care in our region.

Other notable guests at this year's Gala included Sen. Elizabeth "Betty" Little, who presented Mr. Jacobs with a legislative resolution, and former Congressman and U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Tony Hall, who gave a personal tribute to his long-time friend, Mr. Jacobs.

About Harry A. Jacobs Jr.:
During his remarkable career on Wall Street, Mr. Jacobs lead the investment firm Bache and Company through turbulent times, brokered a merger with Prudential to create Prudential Bache and served as its Chairman or President from 1968 to 1982.

He has exhibited courage, compassion and generosity as a father, grandfather, great-grandfather and husband, especially when both his beloved wives fought and lost battles with cancer.

These same qualities have lead him to steadfast friendships around the globe, in Washington, on Wall Street and those he made during summers in Lake Placid.

While family and friends have always come first for Mr. Jacobs, his generosity extends to serving the organizations and communities he cares about deeply and sincerely, including but not limited to, the Adirondack Health Foundation, Trudeau Institute and Paul Smith's College.
