AMC-Uihlein Employee Earns First ABCD Award

March 6th, 2008

SARANAC LAKE – In recognition of its dedicated and hard-working staff and physicians, Adirondack Medical Center has instituted an employee reward and recognition program.
The program, known as ABCD, stands for “Above & Beyond the Call of Duty”. The first recipient of the award is Donna O’Reilly, who is a Certified Nurse Assistant at AMC-Uihlein Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility in Lake Placid. Donna, who grew up in Lake Placid and currently resides in Wilmington, has been employed at AMC-Uihlein for five years.
The Above & Beyond the Call of Duty Award is presented to AMC employees who provide exemplary services or care that is outside of their job requirements and reflects positively on them, their field of practice, community and AMC.
“We are extremely fortunate to have Donna on staff at AMC-Uihlein,” said Mike Lee, Vice President of Human Resources for AMC, “She is both an inspiration to her co-workers and a joy for the residents.”
The basis for Donna’s selection as an ABCD recipient was a demonstrated excellence in service delivery to residents, her co-workers and AMC.  Donna goes above and beyond the call of duty to make residents smile, assisting them with the most private matters, dancing and bringing levity to the residents, family members and staff.  Donna has a way of treating residents, in the most challenging situations, with respect, compassion and care. Family members have sent a letter of commendation attesting to her skill and ability.  Additionally, Donna volunteers for extra shifts to ensure that excellent care is provided, and to support co-workers so that there is adequate staffing.  Donna also dedicates her time to serve as a UFCW Union Steward as well as a mentor for new hires.
In addition to a certificate of appreciation, Donna was given a $50 gift certificate. Adirondack Medical Center will announce ABCD winners on a monthly basis.
