AMC to Honor Service of David F. Thomashow, M.D.

    SARANAC LAKE – The public and members of the media are invited to attend a re-dedication and naming ceremony of the Adirondack Medical Center Renal Center in memory of David F. Thomashow, M.D.
    The ceremony will take place at 5:30 p.m. on June 20 at the Renal Center on the Main Level of Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.
    The ceremony will include brief remarks from Chandler Ralph, President & CEO of AMC, and William Viscardo, M.D., Vice President of Medical Affairs at AMC.  Following their remarks there will be the unveiling of a memorial plaque and the official renaming of the Renal Unit in honor of Dr. Thomashow.  A reception with refreshments and light hors d’oeuvres will conclude the ceremony.
     Dr. Thomashow unexpectedly passed away on March 23.  He was a key figure in the establishment of the Renal Dialysis Treatment Center at AMC, and was serving as the Medical Director of the program at the time of his death.  Under the leadership and direction of Dr. Thomashow, AMC established its Renal Dialysis Treatment Center with three treatment stations in 1997. The Center has since grown to include a total of seven treatment stations. Despite the loss of Dr. Thomashow, there has been no interruption in services for those who depend on treatment through the renal dialysis center.
    Dr. Thomashow graduated from the Albert Einstein School of Medicine in 1970, and joined the AMC medical staff in 1994. He was board certified in Internal Medicine and Nephrology.  Nephrology is the diagnosis and treatment of kidney disease.
    Dr. Thomashow had also served residents at St. Joseph’s Rehabilitation Center since 1996.
