AMC Welcomes New Pastoral Care Manager

January 23rd, 2008

SARANAC LAKE - Susan Kenna, who joined the staff of AMC-Uihlein in November 2007, was recently ordained as a Presbyterian Minister.
Kenna, who was ordained on January 13, was hired at the skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility for the newly created position of Manager of Pastoral Care. Having lived in Los Angeles and Oklahoma for many years, Kenna is excited to begin this new chapter in her life in the natural and somewhat cooler climate of the Adirondacks.
Kenna is a graduate of Occidental College in Los Angeles, with a major in biology, and later received her Masters in Horticulture from Oklahoma State University. She changed her life direction when she studied at Phillips Theological Seminary in Tulsa, Okla., and obtained a Masters in Divinity in 2005. Since that time she fulfilled the necessary requirements to become an ordained Minister in the Presbyterian Church. In August 2007, Kenna completed five units of Clinical Pastoral Education as a Chaplain Resident at Integris Baptist Medical Center, which will enable her to work towards certification in the Association of Professional Chaplains.
In addition to Kenna, Sr. Denise Wilke and Fr. William O'Reilly continue to provide pastoral care services at AMC-Uihlein.
"I am looking forward to providing meaningful pastoral care services for the residents, their families, and the staff while developing standards of care for the department," she stated.
Kenna says her style of ministry is very relational, rooted in faith and theology, so that she and others are able to live each day to its fullest.
Kenna has already initiated a Bible study group at AMC-Uihlein, which, she noted, is greatly appreciated by the residents.
She currently resides in Saranac Lake, and looks forward to visiting her two sons living in Oklahoma - one a college senior at the University of Tulsa, the other a high school junior at Stillwater High School. Her hobbies include playing guitar, reading, watching movies, hiking, and now that she lives in the Adirondacks, snowshoeing.
