AMC To Present Distinguished Service Awards

May 26th, 2010

SARANAC LAKE - Adirondack Medical Center is pleased to announce it will present Distinguished Service Awards to Cheryl Breen Randall, Sister Janet Peters and Meredith Prime at the 13th Annual Crystal Gala at the AuSable Club in Keene Valley on Saturday, June 12.

The AMC Distinguished Service Award recognizes those individuals who have significantly contributed to the Medical Center's mission, either through professional services or volunteerism.

Cheryl Breen Randall, who recently retired as the Executive Director of the AMC Foundation and Community Relations, began her health care career in 1980 at Placid Memorial Hospital in Lake Placid.  Cheryl is credited with raising nearly $10 million dollars for AMC programs and services, and for developing a broad and generous base of donors who share in the mission of excellent health care, close to home.  Cheryl retired from AMC in March after 30 years with the Medical Center to spend more time with her family and to become more involved in community activities.

Sister Janet Peters was instrumental in establishing the Pastoral Care Program at AMC in 2002.  As the first Director of Pastoral Care, Sister Janet promoted holistic patient care at AMC, which provides spiritual and emotional care, crisis intervention, assistance in completing advance directives, and helping patients, family members and friends during difficult life decisions and issues.  Sister Janet's program enables people to draw upon the strength of their spirituality to meet challenges in their lives.  Sister Janet has relocated to Sackets Harbor where she will minister at St. Andrew's Parish, and visit the infirm in their homes and hospital.

Meredith Prime has served with distinction on the AMC Foundation Board of Trustees from 2001-10.  Meredith recognizes the need to ensure the vitality of Adirondack Medical Center, which she believes is critically important for Tri-Lakes region residents and visitors.  She has served as the Foundation Board Chair, Chair of the Major Gifts Committee, and as a member of the Finance Committee.  Meredith has given time to and shared her expertise with many North Country non-profits including the Lake Placid Center for the Arts, Mountain Lake PBS, North Country Public Radio, the Nature Conservancy and the Adirondack Community Trust.

The Gala Committee, led by long-standing volunteers Gina DuMond, Event Chair, and Mary Scollin, Auction Chair, has planned a memorable evening. The Gala begins with this year's Honorary Chairs, Foundation Board Member Adèle Connors and Tom Connors, greeting guests as they arrive at the AuSable Club for a 6 p.m. champagne reception.  At 7:30 p.m. guests will be seated for dinner and a live auction of several exclusive and extraordinary items.  Following dinner will be the presentation of the Distinguished Service Awards, and dancing to the jazz of Jennie and the Junketeers.  A Silent Auction will feature an eclectic mix of fabulous items donated by generous supporters of AMC.

Tickets are $100 per person or $180 per couple and are limited so RSVP early.  Contact the Foundation Office at 897-2370 to register or inquire about opportunities to support the Gala even if unable to attend.

All proceeds raised from this year's Crystal Gala will benefit the new Angiography Suite at AMC.  To learn more about the programs and services at AMC log, or to purchase tickets for the Gala, log onto www.amcCares.org.
