AMC To Host Women's Health Symposium on Nov. 11

October 22nd, 2010

SARANAC LAKE - Participants in this year's Women's Health Symposium sponsored by the Adirondack Medical Center Foundation will learn about the power of one good habit.

The event begins at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 11 at the High Peaks Resort in Lake Placid.  It will be an evening full of dynamic and enthusiastic speakers, exhibition booths featuring health and wellness information, dinner, and most importantly laughter and fun.

The Symposium's keynote speaker Zonya Foco, a nationally known speaker and registered dietitian, is on a self-proclaimed mission to win the war on obesity, Type-2 diabetes and heart disease.  As the only Registered Dietitian (RD) and Certified Health and Fitness Instructor (CHFI) in the country to have earned the prestigious Certified Speaking Professional (CSP) designation, her boundless energy inspires audiences across North America to stop dieting and start living the healthy life they deserve.  Her presentation for the evening will be "The Power of One Good Habit."

Leading up to the keynote speaker, there is the opportunity to participate in one of three breakout sessions hosted by medical professionals affiliated with Adirondack Medical Center.  Dr. Adam Abodeely, a fellowship-trained Colorectal Surgeon will present a candid discussion on common colorectal problems and prevention of colorectal cancer with a touch of humor for good measure.  Dr. Nicholas Brodyn, a fellowship-trained Cardiologist at AMC, will present on the topic of women and heart disease.  Dr. Brodyn will discuss cardiovascular risks and how it differs for women.  Bridget Ellsworth, a Family Nurse Practitioner, is the Breast Care Coordinator for AMC.  She will provide attendees with the latest information about the controversy surrounding the appropriate age to begin breast screening, about breast cancer prevention and the treatment options offered at the breast care center at AMC.

Sign-in and a chance to peruse the exhibitors begins at 4:15 p.m., followed by the break-out sessions at 4:45 p.m.  After the break-out sessions is a reception with the exhibitors at 5:45 p.m.  Dinner begins at 6:30 p.m., and features the choice of pan seared Atlantic salmon, Crispy Chicken Dijon or Roasted Portabella Napoleon.  At 7:15 p.m., keynote speaker Zonya Foco takes the stage, with a Q&A period and book signing to follow.

Registration is $40 and includes the break-out session, dinner and keynote address.  The first 200 registrants receive a copy of Zonya's book Water with Lemon.
