AMC Takes Steps to Protect Against Respiratory Illness

September 17th, 2009

SARANAC LAKE - In an effort to protect our patients from exposure to respiratory illness, Adirondack Medical Center is now restricting inpatient visitors to healthy adults over the age of 17.

Children 17 and under are asked to send cards, make phone calls, but refrain from visiting a patient who is in the hospital.  Gift cards can also be sent to patients electronically via the AMC website.  Simply log onto www.amcCares.org, and click on the "Send a Greeting Card" button.

This preventive measure is effective Sept 17, 2009, and will remain in effect until further notice.

If the patient has a special consideration, please discuss this with the patient's nurse. Exceptions will be made based on the need and the health screening of the child.

All other visitors are asked to refrain from visiting if they have a fever or if they have an active cough, sore throat, runny nose, nausea, vomiting or diarrhea. All visitors are asked to use the Cal Stat alcohol hand rub to clean their hands as they enter and leave the patient's room.

AMC appreciates the public's support and understanding on this matter, and any questions can be directed to the Office of Community Relations at 897-2341.
