AMC Seeks to Upgrade Multi-purpose Imaging Suite

September 28th, 2009

SARANAC LAKE - A generous gift of $350,000 has helped launch a much-needed upgrade and renovation project for the current Multi-purpose Imaging Suite at Adirondack Medical Center.

The upgrades will allow AMC and its talented medical staff to continue providing therapeutic interventions of the vascular system such as leg angioplasty and dialysis graft treatments, along with other procedures such as minimally-invasive gynecological procedures.  These improvements to the Imaging Suite and current services translate into less time in the hospital, quality images and real-time results.

The $350,000 gift came from an anonymous donor who has challenged the broader community to raise $600,000 in order to realize the goal of an improved Multi-purpose Imaging Suite at AMC.

The new Angiography Equipment being purchased for the Multi-Purpose Imaging Suite costs roughly $634,000, and would be a significant improvement in technology and efficiency.  In addition to angiography, the new suite will be used to offer a range of radiological studies.  The new equipment is much more compact, therefore the space for patient care in the Suite will be greatly increased and more versatile.

The multi-purpose radiology suite will be primarily used by Dr. Claude Roland, who is board certified in Vascular surgery.  He completed his Vascular Fellowship at Albany Medical Center with subsequent endovascular training at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York City.  He has been a member of the AMC Medical Staff since 1999.

"Adirondack Medical Center has provided cutting edge surgical care since the 1950s," noted Dr. Roland. "Current trends in vascular surgical care in particular are for less invasive interventions to be used to treat vascular disease.  Upgrading the current radiological equipment would be in line with the local tradition of offering uniquely advanced surgical care locally."

"I am personally committed to maintaining this capability at AMC," added Dr. Roland.

AMC is embarked upon an ambitious renovation project for many of its key services in the Medical Imaging Department.  In addition to the Multi-purpose Imaging Suite, AMC is in the process of establishing a Comprehensive Breast Imaging Program.

"While we are fortunate to have a dedicated and highly-trained staff, it is also important that they have the best tools and latest technology to effectively do their jobs," said Chandler Ralph, President and CEO of AMC.  "The reality is medical equipment and technology are a great expense, and we have been blessed with the support of the community when it comes to defraying those costs."
