AMC President/CEO nets top awards

July 6th, 2006

SARANAC LAKE -  Chandler Ralph, President and CEO of Adirondack Medical Center, was presented with two prestigious and distinct awards at the Healthcare Association of New York State's annual awards dinner ceremony held the last week of June.  HANYS presented awards that recognize members for outstanding achievement in quality improvement, community health, political action committee (PAC), and distinguished service.

Chandler was presented with the American Hospital Association's 2006 Grassroots Champions Award.

According to the AHA, under the leadership of Chandler, AMC has developed one of the premier grassroots advocacy programs in New York State. Chandler's spirit has set a tremendous example for AMC employees, administrative staff, and trustees who participate in a multi-faceted advocacy program that includes consistent participation in state and federal advocacy days, hosting lawmakers and staff at the hospital, participating in the PAC, grassroots letter-writing, media engagement, and implementing community advocacy strategy.
The Grassroots Champions Award also recognizes Chandler's influence on AMC staff and the community by providing compassionate, vital, patient-centered health services to enrich the lives of its community.

As part of the HANYS Health Conversations initiative, AMC hosted several community forums to strengthen ties between the hospital and the community.

AMC's concern for the community resulted in the hospital helping to expand access to health insurance throughout the region. In 2002, AMC launched an Uninsured Task Force to reduce the overall number of uninsured citizens and ensure that all children would have health insurance.

As a result of this concerted community focus and partnership, the AMC Uninsured Task Force has made a tremendous difference in the lives of its uninsured communities, despite the struggling economy of the North Country.

It was also Chandler's years and depth of experience in the healthcare field that led to a special recognition from the American College of Healthcare Executives.
Chandler was presented with the Senior Healthcare Leader Executive Award through ACHE and HANYS.

With over 20 years of executive leadership, Chandler has been affiliated with systems that have demonstrated consistent and steady growth. She is a proponent of continual learning as demonstrated by her recruitment of colleagues to ACHE and Advanced degree programs.
Chandler is active in local and state membership organizations including HANYS and the Iroquois Healthcare Association. Her professional affiliations include Region II Policy Board of the American Hospital Association, member of Board of Governors of the Federation of American Hospital Systems, past president and current member of Northern New York Healthcare Association, and a past member of the American College of Healthcare Executives Regent's Advisory Council.
