AMC Offers Summer Camp for Young Athletes

May 14th, 2010

SARANAC LAKE - Student athletes should have one concern on their minds when it comes to the big game: Performing at their top level.  To make sure of this, the Adirondack Medical Center Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine Department is offering Athletic Development Camps for youth and high school athletes.

It's no fun when an athlete gets hurt training for or playing sports, and it is rewarding when someone feels quick and strong.  AMC's team of Certified Athletic Trainers and Strength and Conditioning Specialists have designed programs to help young athletes improve their performance and reduce the chances of injury during the sports season.

Over the course of the weekly sessions from June 28 to August 13, athletes will learn basic movement skills to improve coordination and body control.  Participants will be utilizing many different training techniques such as strength training, balance, quickness, agility and plyometrics to achieve a higher level of performance.  Plyometrics is a type of exercise using explosive movements to develop muscular power, especially bounding, hopping, and jumping.

One of the primary goals of the summer camp is to keep our area athletes competing at the top of their game for the entire school year.
