SARANAC LAKE - A program is now being offered to better manage chronic diseases such as arthritis, diabetes, heart disease, asthma, bronchitis, emphysema, stress and other chronic conditions.

The Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Conditions program is a six-week, 2.5 hour self-management class open to anyone with a chronic condition or is caring for someone with a chronic condition.  Participants must be at least 18 years of age.

This is an evidence-based program developed at the Stanford Patient Education Center.  Some of the management topics that will be addressed are pain, fatigue, anger, fear, frustration, stress, depression, nutrition, physical activity, relaxation techniques, improving communication, and planning for the future.

For a limited time, the program is being offered at no cost, thanks to the support of grant funding.  In addition, participants will be given a book at no cost, entitled, "Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Conditions."

Registration is currently being accepted for a six-week program that meets weekly on Wednesdays from 1 to 3:30 p.m. starting July 29 at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.  If ten participants register, the group can meet at a participant's location.  The registration deadline is July 10.
