AMC Offers Diabetes Self-Management Program

April 16th, 2009
SARANAC LAKE – Adirondack Medical Center is once again gearing up for its next Diabetes Self-Management Education Program.
To live well with diabetes requires a balance between the many tasks of self-management and the variety of every day life.  Developing and understanding a diabetes management plan can empower individuals with diabetes, by giving them the tools to solve their problems independently.
The Diabetes Self Management Education Program offers comprehensive education in all facets of diabetes care, including nutrition, exercise, self monitoring, stress reduction and avoidance of acute and chronic complications.  The program is taught by an interdisciplinary team of physicians, nurses, a physical therapist, pharmacist, psychotherapist and dietitian/certified diabetes educator.
The first meeting is on May 6 and continues for six consecutive Wednesdays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Redfield Room at AMC in Saranac Lake.
A physician referral is required for insurance or Medicare coverage of the program fee.  Scholarships are available.
Please call 897-2611 with questions or to register.
