AMC Offering Flu Clinics to Community

    SARANAC LAKE - Adirondack Medical Center is hosting flu clinics at the following times and locations. For more information, or if you have questions please call 523-8306.
- Tuesday, November 13, 10 a.m. to Noon - Wilmington Health Center, Community Center Circle, Wilmington.
- Friday, November 16, 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. - Mountain Health Center, State Route 73, Keene.
- Wednesday, November 21, 10 a.m. to Noon - Tupper Lake Housing Authority, Ivy Terrace-38 Boyer Ave., Tupper Lake.
- Wednesday, November 21, 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. - Adirondack Community Church-Erdman Hall, 2583 Main Street, Lake Placid.
     The above clinics are open to everyone over the age of 18. Children and adolescents may make an appointment at one of the AMC Health Centers for a flu vaccine. Call 523-1717 for more information.
     There is an $8 charge for the flu vaccine, which is partially funded by the AMC Foundation. Please bring your Medicare Card for billing purposes.
 The CDC recommends the following individuals get the flu vaccine:
* 65 or older.
* People with chronic diseases such as diabetes, cancer, lung, heart, liver, kidney, blood and other immune diseases. This would apply to their caregivers as well.
* Health care workers providing direct patient care.
* Women who will be pregnant during the flu season.
* Out-of-home caregivers and families with infants younger than 6 months.
Preventative actions:
* Avoid close contact and keep your distance.
* Stay home if you are sick so that others aren't affected.
* Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing.
* Wash your hands frequently to protect you from germs.
* Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth so that germs aren't spread.
* Other tips: Get plenty of sleep, drink water, eat healthy foods, and be physically active.
