AMC Names 2009 Handler Award Recipient

SARANAC LAKE - A local nurse has been selected as the 2009 recipient of the Meghan E. Handler Excellence in Nursing Memorial Award.

Kristin M. Makrin, a registered nurse who works in the Intensive Care Unit, was recognized recently for her work in the nursing field.

The Handler award is given annually to an AMC nurse with less than three years experience. It is named in memory of Meghan Handler, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Richard Handler, who passed away in 1998. Dr. Handler, an internist, has been a member of the AMC medical staff since 1974 and is a senior partner in Medical Associates, a physician group in Saranac Lake.

Recipients are chosen based on their knowledge and their commitment to improve and expand their knowledge base; technical skills, compassion; rapport with patient families and colleagues and efficiency.
