AMC Continues With Upgrades to Medical Imaging Area

December 8th, 2009

SARANAC LAKE - The Medical Imaging Department at Adirondack Medical Center is flush with progress as several upgrades to critical areas and installation of new equipment near completion.

Most recently, the renovation project for the Multi-purpose Imaging Suite got underway as AMC conducts a fundraising campaign for $600,000.  The campaign was initiated by a $350,000 anonymous gift that came with a challenge to raise an additional $600,000 needed for the renovations.

The upgrades will allow AMC and its talented medical staff to continue providing therapeutic interventions of the vascular system such as leg angioplasty and dialysis graft treatments, along with other procedures such as minimally-invasive gynecological procedures.  These improvements to the Imaging Suite and current services translate into less time in the hospital, quality images and real-time results.  The new Angiography Equipment being purchased for the Multi-Purpose Imaging Suite costs roughly $634,000, and would be a significant improvement in technology and efficiency.

Other upgrades and improvements in the Medical Imaging Department include the new Countess Alicia Spaulding-Paolozzi Breast Imaging Center and equipment upgrades to the Radiography & Fluoroscopy Room.

The upgrades to the Radiography & Fluoroscopy Room include a new Siemens digital imaging unit.  This new unit provides general radiography and fluoroscopy studies including barium studies of the upper and lower GI track, swallowing studies, Intravenous Pyelogram (IVP) for kidney and urinary tract studies, gynecological studies known as hysterosalpingograms, and also arthrograms which are studies of the joints typically of the hip and shoulders.  The new digital imaging unit can accommodate patients up to 600 pounds.
