AMC Announces Flu Clinics for 2008

    SARANAC LAKE – Adirondack Medical Center is hosting flu clinics at the following times and locations. For more information, or if you have questions please call 523-8306.
- Friday, November 7, 2 to 4 p.m. – Lake Placid Health Center, 29 Church St., Lake Placid.
- Thursday, November 13, 2 to 4 p.m. –  Tupper Lake Health Center, 55 Church St., Tupper Lake.
- Friday, November 14, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. – Mountain Health Center, State Route 73, Keene.
    The above clinics are open to everyone over the age of 18. Children and adolescents may make an appointment at one of the AMC Health Centers for a flu vaccine. Call 523-1717 for more information.  Please bring your Medicare Part B Card for billing purposes.  For those who do not have Medicare, there is a $10 charge for the flu vaccine, which is partially funded by the AMC Foundation.
    The CDC recommends the following individuals get the flu vaccine:
* 65 or older.
* People with chronic diseases such as diabetes, cancer, lung, heart, liver, kidney, blood and other immune diseases. This would apply to their caregivers as well.
* Health care workers providing direct patient care.
* Women who will be pregnant during the flu season.
* Out-of-home caregivers and families with infants younger than 6 months.
Preventative actions:
* Avoid close contact and keep your distance.
* Stay home if you are sick so that others aren’t affected.
* Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing.
* Wash your hands frequently to protect you from germs.
* Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth so that germs aren’t spread.
* Other tips: Get plenty of sleep, drink water, eat healthy foods, and be physically active.
