AMC Affirms its Commitment to Care in Changing Times
May 6th, 2009
SARANAC LAKE – Adirondack Medical Center will have its “commitment” on display May 10-16, but most would agree that sense of dedication lasts far beyond National Health Care Week.
“The people who meet the daily health care needs of the Tri-Lakes region and beyond are a committed, compassionate group of individuals united by their calling to help others,” said Chandler Ralph, President & CEO of AMC. “Health care is changing to meet new challenges, but our commitment is an enduring source of pride and confidence.”
National Health Care Week 2009, celebrated the week of May 10-16, is the nation’s largest annual health care event. This year’s theme is “A Healthy Commitment in Changing Times,” a phrase organizers believe provides a positive view of the future.
“It’s always been about our people. Change is inevitable but our goals and our mission are constant. Our staff want the very best for our patients and residents, and that’s what they bring to the hospital and nursing homes every day of the year,” Ms. Ralph said.
To celebrate National Health Care Week, AMC has several events on hand at its hospitals in Lake Placid and Saranac Lake, health centers in Lake Placid, Tupper Lake and Keene, and its skilled nursing facilities in Lake Placid and Tupper Lake. AMC will be kicking off Health Care Week on Friday, May 8, with the unveiling of its new Guiding Principles. Guiding Principles are the ideals that serve as a basis of reasoning and action, a personal code of conduct that leads, shows the way and directs the movements of the organization. AMC’s new Guiding Principles are Compassionate, Accountable, Respectful, Exceptional, Service, which can be summed up in the acronym, C.A.R.E.S.
Later that day, and weather permitting, a crew of AMC volunteers will be heading out to State Route 86 to pick up litter along a two-mile stretch of the road starting at AMC and heading north. This is one of the many ways AMC strives to be a good neighbor by giving back to the community that has given so much to it.
The high point of Health Care Week will take place on Wednesday when AMC honors several employees for their years of service to the Medical Center. Nearly 140 employees will be recognized for achieving five, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, and 40 years of service.
National Hospital Week began in 1921 and, over the decades, has helped revolutionize the public’s view of hospitals and nursing homes. The health care industry employs more than 14 million workers throughout the U.S., and locally AMC employs over 900 dedicated individuals.
