Surgeries
In many cases, your doctor will admit you to the hospital. There may be a slight delay before you are taken to a room. This will depend on the number of available beds. If you are visiting the hospital for scheduled surgery, there may also be delays in the hospital's surgical schedule. Please understand that emergencies do occur. Our staff will keep you informed about your schedule.
There are three types of operations that are scheduled in advance:
- Outpatient surgery is done under local anesthesia, and you will not stay overnight.
- Ambulatory or same-day surgery involves the use of general anesthesia, but usually no overnight stay.
- Inpatient surgery - depending on the type of operation and the outcome, you may be asked to stay overnight or longer.
The surgeon's office will arrange a phone interview or a visit with the pre-admission nurse at the hospital. She will ask you specific questions regarding your health history and current medications. If you have a scheduled visit, please bring a list of your current medications with you, along with information on dosages and the times you take them. This information is important to provide proper care. The state and federal government also requires this information. Rest assured that the hospital protects your privacy and will not reveal any of this information to anyone without your permission.

The Admitting Office will be calling you five to 10 days before your surgery for insurance information. We realize that answering all these questions can be time-consuming, but please understand that the information is necessary so that we can notify your insurance company and avoid any problems with your bill.
The day before your surgery, please call the Admitting Office between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. at (518) 897-2322 to find out what time you need to be at the hospital.
On the day of surgery, you can report directly to the Keet Ambulatory Care Center to prepare for your operation. At that time, you will be given a wristband to wear. It will identify you for the rest of your stay.
It is important to remember that there could be delays in the surgery schedule. Sometimes emergencies arise and your doctor may be called away or the operating room may be in use at the time you are scheduled for surgery. The staff will keep you informed about any delays.
What To Bring

Please bring identification and insurance information (such as Blue Cross, Medicare or Medicaid) with you when you come to the hospital. If you have already spoken to a nurse about your operation, they will already have your information, but it is best to have it with you in case there are questions.

Personal Items
You are welcome to bring items from home that may make you more comfortable during your stay. Some common items include:
- robe and slippers * hearing aids and cases
- dentures * underclothes
- eyeglasses and cases * pajamas / nightgown
- a pillow * personal toilet items
For your safety, personal radios and compact disc players must be battery operated. Our Engineering Department will be glad to check your equipment for safety. If you are being monitored with electrical devices, please ask your nurse before using any electrical appliance.
Medication
Please do not bring any medication from home, unless your doctor or the pre-admission testing nurse tells you to do so. When you come to the hospital, please bring a complete list of your medicines and how much you are taking.
Items To Leave Home
Valuable items such as jewelry, watches and credit cards should be left at home. The hospital cannot assume responsibility for them. All body jewelry should also be removed before you come to the hospital. We suggest that you bring only enough money to purchase magazines, newspapers and other incidentals.
