Speech and language are our most human characteristic. They are essential to learning, working and enjoying family life and friendships. Speaking, writing, using sign language and using computerized communication devices are some of the most common ways to express language. Speech-language pathologists are educated to assess speech and language development, treat language and speech disorders and help people with swallowing disorders.
