Motion Analysis Lab

Adirondack Medical Center's Department of Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine presents the new Computerized Motion Analysis Lab.

Dartfish Tech

The Dartfish advanced video analysis software allows trained professionals, such as physical therapists and athletic trainers, to view and analyze movement with improved accuracy and precision, thus improving their ability to see subtle abnormalities that cannot be detected with the naked eye.

Many activities happen too quickly for even the trained eye to detect, so video is filmed at normal speed of a client or patient's movement, then analyzed frame by frame using the Dartfish software and a laptop computer. Patients and clients can view themselves in this manner to gain a better understanding and valuable insights into their dysfunctions and learn how to improve their movements.

This new service also allows for performance to be tracked over time and viewed in side-by-side comparison with previous clips to demonstrate and reinforce improvements. Movement, speed, angle and distance can be determined and the information is compiled to form a complete analysis of movement.

In addition to the video analysis, information gathered from an evaluation to gather subjective and objective background information is combined with the video information to form a complete assessment.

This program is perfect for individuals suffering from medical conditions such as pediatric developmental delays, cerebral palsy, stroke, multiple sclerosis, orthopedic dysfunction, pain due to altered limb alignment or pain or abnormal movement due to surgery.

The program also greatly benefits athletes such as runners, walkers, golfers, tennis players, and soccer players who are conditioning or improving their athletic talents.

Participants receive a written summary of their analysis, suggestions on how to make corrections, and an optional CD ROM of their video footage.
