The Countess Alicia Spaulding-Paolozzi Breast Imaging Center at AMC provides a smooth registration process that is efficient and respects your valuable time.  The breast imaging center offers a private waiting area, and specialized breast care coordinator to make sure your needs are being served.

Full-field digital Mammography is available for our patients in Saranac Lake and Tupper Lake.  In Saranac Lake, we have additional services, including: Breast Specific Gamma Imaging, Breast Ultra Sound, Breast Examinations, Stereotactic Biopsy and Dexa Scanning (Bone Density Testing).

The comprehensive breast imaging center combines the confidence of the most accurate technology with the experience of a highly trained team of medical professionals in a warm and supportive environment. At our breast imaging center, it is women caring for women. The staff understands your time is valuable, but also understands your health is valuable to you and your family.

Diagnostic Radiology
Diagnostic Radiology (X-Ray) is often the fastest and most standard, first approach to diagnosis for many conditions from bone ailments to gastric disturbances to breathing difficulties.  It provides your doctor with a view of basic internal anatomy and potential disease.  The results can be available in a very short time to aid you and your doctor to achieve a speedy recovery.

This service is available in Lake Placid, Saranac Lake and Tupper Lake.

Sonography/Ultrasound
Ultrasound imaging, also called ultrasound scanning or sonography, is a method of obtaining images from inside the human body through the use of high frequency sound waves. The sound wave echoes are recorded and displayed as a real-time visual image.  No radiation is involved in ultrasound imaging.

Nuclear Medicine
Nuclear Medicine is applied to detect activity within various organ systems in the body by using very small amounts of radioactive material that is either injected or swallowed.  Images are taken of the area of interest to identify if the system is functioning as expected.  The exam is conducted in a relaxed lying down position, and our staff is highly sensitive to the comfort and needs of individual patients.

Bone Mineral Density Testing
Bone Mineral Density Testing is a painless, comfortable examination that requires the patient to lie on their back.  An extremely low dose of radiation is utilized to image two areas (usually lower spine and one hip). Measurement of these two areas can most accurately determine the presence and value of treatment for osteoporosis.

MRI
Magnetic Resonance Imaging is a versatile, powerful and sensitive medical diagnostic technique that creates images of the body.  MRI can generate thin-section images of any part of the body including the heart, arteries, and veins from any angle and direction.  This is accomplished without the need for invasive surgical procedures, and is completed in a relatively short period of time.  MRI provides your doctor with basic biomedical and anatomical information that may allow early diagnosis of a broad range of diseases. The MRI services at AMC have received a three year re-accreditation status by the American College of Radiology. The ACR awards accreditation to facilities for the achievement of high practice standards.

CT Scanning
CT Scanning (or CAT scan) can see inside the brain and other parts of the body, into areas that cannot be seen on regular x-ray examinations. CT makes it possible to diagnose certain diseases early and more accurately than with other imaging tools. Because most diseases are better treated when found early, CT scans can help save lives.  The test itself is completely painless, and is conducted while the patient lays quietly on the CT scanner's "patient couch" during the study.
