Cardiology

Adirondack Medical Center is pleased to have an accomplished Cardiologist on its Medical Staff.

Nicholas E. Brodyn, D.O., is a board certified invasive non-interventional and non-invasive cardiologist.  He has been recruited to establish a complete non-invasive cardiology service at AMC.  In addition to services already offered, the hospital plans to offer new diagnostic cardiology procedures including Transesophageal Echocardiography (TEE) and Enhanced External Counter Pulsation (EECP), among others.  TEE is a procedure that is useful in diagnosing anatomic disease otherwise not seen by standard ultrasound.  EECP is a therapy used for small vessel coronary disease and angina in patients who are not ideal candidates for surgery or stenting.  A physician referral is needed to request a consultation from a Cardiologist.  Dr. Brodyn is board certified in Internal Medicine, and in the sub-specialties of Adult Cardiology and Cardiovascular Diseases as well as Nuclear Cardiology.

"I work with the patients from the first handshake, from diagnosis to completion of therapy," said Dr. Brodyn.  "I assess and examine patients, diagnose and develop a plan of therapy and arrange for appropriate testing and procedures, if needed."

In addition to his medical interests he is an avid musician, and enjoys playing the guitar, mandolin and vintage American instruments.  He is also a motorcycle enthusiast and enjoys the outdoors.

Dr. Brodyn received his Bachelor's Degree in Biology from New York University in 1976, and a Master's Degree in Medical Microbiology from Long Island University in 1979.  He earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Degree from Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences in 1983.

He completed both his residency in Internal Medicine and later his Fellowship in Cardiology at Seton Hall University's St. Michael's Medical Center in Newark, N.J.

He is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, the American College of Cardiology and the American College of Chest Physicians.  In addition to his memberships, research, published reports and awards, Dr. Brodyn has served as Associate Clinical Professor of Cardiology at several medical schools throughout the country.  He has been a speaker and consultant for several major pharmaceutical companies, and an advisor and director for medical groups and professional organizations such as the American Heart Association.

Dr. Brodyn was also listed in the New York magazine's "Best Doctors in New York" issues from 1999-2004.  He was also listed in New Jersey magazine's "Best Doctors in New Jersey" issues from 2002-07.

Dr. Brodyn is now serving as the Director of Cardiology at AMC.  For more information call (518) 897-2388.
