Cardiopulmonary

The Cardiopulmonary Department at Adirondack Medical Center is comprised of Cardiac Rehab Phase II, the Sleep Studies Lab, Respiratory Therapy, and the EKG / Stress-testing staff.

Cardiac Rehab

The goal of the Cardiac Rehab staff is for you, our patient, to understand your cardiac condition better, enhance the quality of your life, improve your heart's health, get back to work and/or activities quickly, and decrease your chances of heart complications.

This goal is accomplished with a variety of aerobic activity that is monitored and medically supervised by the Cardiac Rehab team. Education sessions are included for you and your family.

Please call the Cardiac Rehab office, located at the AMC/Lake Placid site, at (518) 523-8370 for more information.

Sleep Studies Lab

The AMC Sleep Lab is located within the Cardiopulmonary Department at AMC-Uihlein in Lake Placid. We can accommodate two patients per night. Initial polysomnographic testing is conducted by our experienced staff to detect a variety of sleep disorders. Follow-up treatment of CPAP/BiPAP titration is also performed.

Your good night's sleep is our goal. A chronic lack of good refreshing sleep can result in problems concentrating, dozing while reading, driving or watching T.V., grumpiness, lack of energy and health problems. If you suffer from these symptoms, fill out the Epworth Sleepiness Scale below and print a copy for your doctor. If a sleep study is right for you, we are your friendly community experts that can help you get the sleep you need.

Please call the Sleep Studies Lab at (518) 523-8559.

Respiratory Therapy

Our Respiratory Therpists provide skilled, caring treatments to those patients needing relief from difficulties in breathing. We provide this care using state-of-the-art equipment, pharmaceutical agents, and physiotherapeutic techniques, incorporated with outher health care professionals as part of the total health care team.

We provide helath care education and information to patients, families and the community at large to allow our patients to make informed helath care decisions.

Please call Repiratory Therapy at (518) 897-2267.

EKG/Stress-testing

The Electrocardiography Staff is responsible for all electrocardiograms done in the hospital, as well as 24 hour Holter Monitor recordings and EEG recordings. In addition, EKG staff offers nuclear and non-nuclear stress testing.

Please call EKG/Stress-testing at (518) 897-2308.

THE EPWORTH SLEEPINESS SCALE

The Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS) is a simple, self-administered questionnaire that is widely used by sleep professionals to help quantify a patient's level of daytime sleepiness, which is often a sign of a sleep disorder.

How likely are you to doze off or fall asleep in certain situations? Use the following scale to rate your daytime sleepiness. Even if you have not done some of these activities, try to determine how they might affect you.

Use the scale below to rate your answers:
0 = No chance of dozing
1 = Slight chance of dozing
2 = Moderate chance of dozing
3 = High chance of dozing

Situation  Chance of  Dozing
(Rate 0 - 3)
